One of the most common cancers in the world, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Your risks for lung cancer increase with tobacco smoking, as well as exposure to high levels of pollution, radiation, or asbestos. But when lung cancer is detected early, there is hope. If you or a loved one experiences symptoms of lung cancer, such as wheezing, persistent coughing, hoarseness, chest infections, headaches, or loss of appetite, you’ll want to talk with the lung and thoracic cancer experts at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center. As the leader in the state’s most comprehensive lung cancer care, Stephenson Cancer Center can provide the thorough, compassionate care you need—from advanced diagnostics to surgery.

At Stephenson Cancer Center, you’ll work with a highly trained team that’s dedicated to providing evidence-based prevention, detection, treatment, and research for lung cancer and a wide range of thoracic cancers. Our Services

  • Cancer Navigation Services

At Stephenson Cancer Center, your care team includes a nurse navigator, who is a specially trained registered nurse (RN) who acts as your personal advocate and adds an extra layer of support. This advocate will help guide you through treatment, work with your care team to address your needs, and connect you with helpful resources, such as financial assistance, nutrition therapy, counseling, physical therapy, pain management services, and more.

  • Lung Cancer Screenings

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends annual lung cancer screenings for adults between 50 and 80 years of age, as well as for current smokers, those who have quit smoking within the past 15 years, and anyone with a history of smoking an average of one pack per day for twenty years. If you’re eligible, contact us to schedule a lung cancer screening with the experts at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center.

  • Personalized Cancer Treatment

You and your lung cancer care team will work together to develop an individualized treatment plan that’s tailored for your specific situation. The best treatment for you depends on several factors, including the stage of the disease and the location of the tumor. You and your doctors can take advantage of a variety of treatment methods, including:

    • Chemotherapy medications to destroy cancer cells
    • Radiation therapy, which is targeted radiation to shrink tumors for easier removal
    • Targeted therapy that consists of specialized medications to interrupt abnormal cell growth
    • Specialized surgery procedures to remove the tumor or part of the lung

  • Supportive Care Services

You’ll gain access to extensive services such as genetic counseling, nutritional therapy, support groups, palliative and comfort care, cancer education workshops, and symptom and pain management. We offer compassionate care and support for a full range of common symptoms, providing resources and help with symptoms such as anxiety, depression, cognitive problems, nausea, trouble breathing, and more. You’ll find all of your cancer-related services in a bright, welcoming, up-to-date facility close to home and designed for your comfort and convenience.
